THE CHAOS GOBLIN
"Morally correct characters bore me."
You were rooting for the villain. You know it. You don't feel bad about it.
Give you morally gray. Give you a love interest who has done genuinely questionable things and doesn't apologize for all of them. Give you dark themes handled with the respect they deserve and the audacity to go somewhere most authors won't.
You don't need characters to be good. You need them to be interesting.
The books that play it safe bore you. The ones that go somewhere dark and mean it — those are the ones you finish in a night and immediately need to talk about. You don't recommend them to everyone. Only to the specific people who you know can handle it. And it's your highest compliment when you do.
